Operations & Administrative FunctionsParts ManagementAbilityOne and its nonprofit partners will assume ownership of, and responsibility for managing and replenishing your inventory of maintenance and repair parts. This includes furnishing all employees required to staff existing parts storerooms and procuring and dispensing parts to mechanics on a day-to-day basis. At your guidance, we can procure parts via your contracts and blanket purchase orders or we will source parts from local or national suppliers via our own contracts. Outsourced parts management is particularly attractive for organizations whose parts procurement and supply practices are unduly hindered by restrictive purchasing regulations. Whereas public procurement and competitive bidding laws tend to require fleet maintenance organizations to purchase parts from the vendors that bid the lowest price for a given commodity, performance-based parts management contracts allow maintenance organizations to obtain parts from suppliers that offer the best value, taking into account not only purchase prices, but quality, availability, delivery time, and warranty coverage. Fuel ManagementFuel is nearly 50% of the annual cost of operating and maintaining a typical vehicle fleet. Managing on-site fuel inventories and the fuel replenishment schedule requires a delicate balancing act to avoid unexpected shortages without incurring unnecessarily high inventory carrying costs. To contain costs while conforming to environmental regulations, most military and Federal fleet managers have centralized monitoring and control of fleet assets, including their fueling operations. AbilityOne and its nonprofit partners will assist in effectively managing all facets of the administration and operation of bulk fueling facilities, including:
